At least eleven vessels of the French Navy have borne the name "Le Redoutable" ("the frightening one"). Among them:

* "Le Redoutable": project for a ship of the line (1706)
* "Le Redoutable" (1740): privateer
* "Le Redoutable" (1749): 74-gun ship of the line. She took part in the landing in Mahon under admiral la Galissonière. She was destroyed in Lagos in 1759.
* The "Redoutable" (1791), a 74-gun ship of the line. One of her crew killed Admiral Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar.
* "Le Redoutable" (1800): aviso, captured by the HMS "Success"
* "Le Redoutable" (1801): coast-guard
* "Le Redoutable" (1804): Xebec
* "Le Redoutable" (1853), an "Algésiras" class ship of the line
* The "Redoutable" (1876), the first warship in the world to be built in steel.
* The "Redoutable (Q136)" (1930), lead ship of the "Redoutable" class submarine before the Second World War.
* The "Redoutable" (1971), first SNLE submarine of the French Navy, now a museum and the largest submarine in the world open to the public.
