Lifeworks International

Lifeworks International

Lifeworks International is a organization which offers community service based adventure programs during the Northern Hemisphere summertime to teenagers. Programs are run in the British Virgin Islands, Ecuador and the Galapagos, Thailand, China, Costa Rica, and Australia.

Philosophy

The philosophy of Lifeworks International is based on applying the ripple effect for positive change. It is broken into three tiers - human, community, and global impact.

Human -- One-on-one interactions while working toward a common goal, build understanding and camaraderie, person by person. Community -- Working in community is working together to achieve results that go beyond what a single person might accomplish individually. The benefits of the accomplishment enhance the broader community. And, at times, positive efforts inspire community growth because good works can be contagious. Just getting started is often the key; once the ball is rolling, others tend to contribute spontaneously.

Global -- It has been said that small acts of kindness can ultimately have an impact on a global level. [http://lifeworks-international.com/?k=our-philosophy]

History

Lifeworks International grew from the experience of it's sister institutions, ActionQuest and Seamester, with a decided aim on global community service. After the events of September 11th, 2001, ActionQuest decided to develop a program aimed at service, which became Lifeworks International. cite web|url=http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2008/04/18/ST2008041802138.html |title=Teens on a Mission: What a Trip |publisher=Washington Post |accessdate=2005-09-17]
