Eunice Dunstan ( nee Costello, previously Phelan) was a fictional character on the Irish soap opera, Fair City. She was portrayed by Joan O'Hara from 1994 to 2007, until the actor's death. Although O'Hara died in 2007, the character of Eunice was swiftly sent to Bermuda and it was announced she died in 2008.

About Eunice

Eunice Phelan arrived in Carrigstown in 1994 to live with her son Hughie and grandson, Kevin. Her other son, Christy, arrived some years later and ended up living in Carrigstown as well with his wife, Renee and two kids, Floyd and Farrah.

After Christy's arrival, Eunice bought the Doyle's shop and turned it into Phelans newsagents. As a devout Catholic, Eunice wasn't impressed when her nephew left the priesthood for a relationship with Kay McCoy. However her prejudice seemed to clear as she was sympathetic when their marraige broke down.

Eunice was shocked and disgusted when she found out that Floyd was having an incestous relationship with his half sister Heather Daly. She was later saddened when she discovered that Hughie's marraige to Natalie had broken down.

Eunice met Clive Dunstan and instantly became friends with him. Over time however, their friendship turned into a relationship. Eunice and Clive planned to marry but Eunice became shocked to discover that Clive's wife Kathleen was still alive. However, Kathleen soon died in a hospice and they got married. However the ceremony was moved to the hospital as Clive had taken ill.

Clive suprised Eunice on their first anniversary by renewing their vows in a church. At the reception afterwards in McCoys, Eunice discovered that Renee was having an affair with Christy's friend, Bob Charles. Eunice begged Renee to finish the affair but in the end, Renee left Christy and started a relationship with Bob.

Eunice and Clive planned to travel in a camper van but it was put on hold for a while when they set up an antique stall. In 2007, they travelled to Bermuda to visit ughie and Kevin. Clive returned later but without Eunice explaining that she was tending to Hughie who broke his leg.

However on May 11, Hughie called Christy to tell him that Eunice died peacefully in her sleep. Clive went to Bermuda to brig back her ashes but brought back Hughie as well. Christy organised a small ceremony to be held and her ashes were scattered by the sea.
