Louis Joseph Antoine de Potter (1786 - 1859) was a Belgian politician and pamphleteer. He was born in Belgium, and after a long residence in Germany, France, and Italy, he returned to Brussels in 1824. For his opposition to the Dutch government, he was sentenced in 1828 to pay a fine of 1000 florins, and to imprisonment for a year and a half. During his imprisonment he composed a pamphlet on the "Union of the Catholics and Liberals"; and for this and other publications he was condemened in 1830 to banishment for eight years. After the Belgian Revolution, he was a member of the provisional government, upon whose downfall he withdrew to France. His best production is his "Philosophical History of Christianity".
