Lank Leonard was born in
Port Chester, New York in 1896. Clare A. Briggs , he was referred toCarey Orr , editorial cartoonist of the "Chicago Tribune ". They suggested that he took courses in drawing. By 1925, he started working fulltime as a cartoonist, first as an inker at theBray Productions animation studio, then working as a sports cartoonist for the next ten years. His hobby was golf.In 1936, his comic strip "Mickey Finn" was bought by the
McNaught Syndicate . Appearing in more than 300 newspapers at the height of its success, Leonard continued the strip for the next thirty years, assisted byMart Bailey andMorris Weiss . By the early 1960s, he moved to Miami and let Morris Weiss take over the writing of the comic.
