Guayape is a
municipality in the west of the Honduran department of Olancho, west of Salamá, south ofYocón and north of Concordia.Guayape, Is Divided Into Three Huge Territories.Some even covering the river.The lands are Divided by the three families that control it.The Riveras, The Lagos, and the Guerreros.
Although not a very well-know place, even to hondurans, Guayape has beautiful landscapes, and endlesswaterfalls. It has also some of the richest and fertile soil in Honduras.
RIVER / RIO GUAYAPE
Guayape is also the name given to the Rio Guayape, a major river that drains much of
Olancho and central Honduras. The largest tributary to the Guayape is the Rio Jalan, which joins it at El Plomo, not far from the city ofJuticalpa , from there the river travels by many small towns, including ElEsquilinchuche . The largest bridge over the Rio Guayape is the Puente del Burro, a modern cement structure that replaced the huge steel suspension bridge that had stood for decades after being built by the US Army Corps of Engineers, and was destroyed byHurricane Mitch . Far downriver, from the bridge, the Guayape river joins with the Guayambre river, from then on the waterway is known as the RioPatuca .
