The Alcyonarian corals are organisms resembling the octocorals (sea pens). This individual polyps formed colonies and bore sclerites. The Burgess shale organism "Margaretia" resembles an Alcyonarian, but is not firmly classified as one.fotbs Otherwise their fossil record can be traced back to the Cretaceous. [ DEFLANDRE-RIGAUD, M.
