Peter Sullivan ( born 26th July 1964 at
Hoddesdon ,Hertfordshire ) is a theatre, film and television actor known mainly for new work with theatre companies and writers from both Europe and the United States. He joined theNational Youth Theatre in 1982 where he played Edmond in "King Lear" and then joined theOld Vic Youth Theatre playing the title role in "Macbeth". He studied atCentral School of Speech and Drama from 1983-1986 and then in New York underUta Hagen atH.B. Studio .In 1988 he joined the Catalan performance group
La Fura Dels Baus and toured the world with them in their trilogy of spectacles "Accions, Suz/O/Suz" and" Tier Mon". In 1990 he was asked byDeborah Warner to join theNational Theatre in London to tour "King Lear" and "Richard III", directed byRichard Eyre , staying on to play in "Napoli Millionaria" as part of the Lyttelton Theatre company. He also worked extensively at theNational Theatre Studio withSimon Usher and where he formed The Actors' Group. He left the National to work withDavid Freeman , playing Pentheus inOpera Factory 's "Bacchae" at the Queen Elizabeth Hall before moving into television to play the lead inDick Clement andIan Le Frenais ' sit-com "Over The Rainbow".He was nominated for the Evening Standard Best Newcomer award for his portrayal of Ray in Simon Bennet's "Drummers" directed by
Max Stafford-Clark at the New Ambassadors in London's West End. He also played SS Colonel Karl Schoengarth in the multi-award winning B.B.C./H.B.O filmConspiracy written byLoring Mandel and directed byFrank Pierson . He then playedJack the Ripper inJonathan Kent 's revival ofWedekind 's "Lulu" in a new version byNicolas Wright which started at theAlmeida theatre before transferring to theKennedy Centre in Washington D.C.He is probably best known for his work with
Peter Gill , appearing in both "Way of the World" and "Certain Young Men" at the Almeida Theatre, as well as for a number of plays at theRoyal Court Theatre , as well as contributing to their recent book "Inside Out". At the Court he played The Husband inDebbie Tucker Green 's "Stoning Mary" directed byMarianne Elliott , originated the role of Ferdinand inTom Stoppard 's "Rock n Roll" directed byTrevor Nunn which transferred to the West End and Broadway as well as playing Cash inDominic Cooke 's first play as artistic director, "The Pain and The Itch" by the American writerBruce Norris . Most recently he played Mortensgaard inAntony Page 's acclaimed revival ofIbsen 's "Rosmersholm" in a new version byMike Poulson , once again at the Almeida.He has appeared in numerous television shows, both as regular and guest characters and in a number of films, both studio pictures as well as lower budget films in the U.K. and Spain.
From 1987-1993 he was married to the Catalan writer and broadcaster
Anna Klamburg .They have one son, the musicianJake "Jacobo" Sullivan .
