Angoor Ada (also Angorada, literally: "Grape Base" in Urdu) is a village and a border crossing straddling the South Waziristan Agency of Pakistan's Federally Administered Tribal Areas and Afghanistan's Paktika Province. It is one of the few passages across this mountanous border, and one of two between Paktika and Waziristan, the other passage being the Gumal River. The Afghan village Shkin lies just to the west of Angoor Ada.

The population in the area consists of tribesmen that share the Taliban's Pashtun ethnicitycite news |author= Ross, Brian and Rackmill, Jill |title= Hunt for Osama bin Laden Narrowed to 40 Square Miles |url= http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/Story?id=129452& |work= ABC News |publisher= |date= 2003-09-08 |accessdate=2008-09-04 ] and are said to be fiercely conservativecite news |author= Peters , Gretchen |title= Bin Lasen's Hideout in Wilds of Pakistan |url= http://www.csmonitor.com/2003/0915/p01s04-wosc.html |work= Christian Science Monitor |publisher= |date= 2003-09-15 |accessdate=2008-09-04 ] and antagonistic towards Pakistani authorities who wield almost no control here, being limited in their movements to 100 yards on each side of the road. In 2003 it was reported that 8 people had been gunned down in Angoor Ada suspected of of being US informants.

Angoor Ada in the War on Terror

In 2003 the hunt for Osama bin Laden was said by U.S. officials to be narrowed to a convert|40|sqmi|km2|0|adj=on section of South Waziristan, namely the area covering the towns Angoor Ada and Wana.

The 2008 Angoor Ada raid

On September 3 2008 a raid was conducted by a US military force on Angoor Ada in which 20 civilians, including at least 3 women and 4 children, were killed [cite news |first= |last= |authorlink= |coauthors= |title= Suspected US commandos kill 20 in S Waziristan raid |url= http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=2008%5C09%5C04%5Cstory_4-9-2008_pg1_3 |work= Daily Times |publisher= |date= 2008-09-04 |accessdate=2008-09-04 ] . This is not the first time Afghan based US troops cross the Afghan-Pakistani border in pursuit of enemy fighters.
