Career
Born Katherine Elizabeth McLaughlin in Topeka,
Kansas , Ryan was signed by20th Century Fox in 1940, and starred in "Dressed to Kill" in 1941. She appeared in a number of 1940s films including twoLaurel and Hardy movies and theBusby Berkeley musical "The Gang's All Here" (1943). She appeared in a number ofCharlie Chan andMichael Shayne mysteries, often starring alongsideCesar Romero . By the late 1940s her career waned and she began appearing inB-movies . One quality film from that part of her career was "Railroaded! ". In 1945 she married actorAllan Lane , but the marriage was short lived, and ended in divorce after only a few months.By the late 1940s she was working with
Gene Autry , starring in several of his films, to include "The Cowboys and the Indians " (1949), and "Mule Train" (1950). She also appeared on many of Autry'stelevision shows.Personal life
While working with Autry, Ryan met
Pat Buttram . The two were married in 1952, and would remain together until her death in 1975. They had one daughter, Kathleen (Kerry).Ryan retired from acting in 1958. She died in
