IGG Software (company)

IGG Software is a Putney, Vermont-based software company that specializes in Mac OS X applications for personal finance and small business. It was founded by Dr. Ian Gillespie in 2003.

IGG's first program was AtWork, an application by which Gillespie, then a doctoral candidate in botany, could track the hours he spent conducting plant surveys. AtWork evolved into iWork, a name reportedly acquired1 by Apple Computer, Inc. for its nascent productivity suite. Relaunched as iBiz in 2005, the program incorporated invoicing, networkability and other features. It now competes with apps such as iRatchet, Billings and Studiometry.

As iBiz developed, IGG also began to offer iBank, an application for managing personal finances and small business accounts. iBank 2 emerged in January 2006 after being completely rewritten to take advantage of Mac OS 10.4, Tiger.

Similarly, Gillespie introduced iBank 3 at Macworld 2008. This version, developed specifically for Mac OS 10.5, was named a runner-up for Best Leopard Application in the 2007 Apple Design Awards2. iBank is a direct competitor to the market-leading personal finance application Quicken. Other competing Mac software includes Moneydance, Liquid Ledger and Cha-Ching.

IGG has discontinued development of the application PlayPod (a podcast player), though it continues to support its clipboard utility, iPaste.
