- Ferroniobium
Ferroniobium is an important
iron niobium alloy, with an niobium content of 60-70%cite book | title = Extractive Metallurgy of Niobium | author = C. K. Gupta, A. K. Suri, Gupta K. The niobium is mined frompyrochlore deposits and is subsequently transformed into the niobium pentoxide Nb2O5. This oxide is mixed withiron oxide andaluminium and isreduced in the analuminothermic reaction to niobium and iron. The ferroniobium can be purified byelectron beam melting or used as it is. For alloying with steel the ferroniobium is added to molten steel before casting.
