Scott Starin

Scott Howard Starin (born December 15, 1960) works in the Aerospace industry for many companies working on energy conversion. Family

Scott Starin is the fourth and last child born to George and Rose Starin. In 1986 he married Debora (Simpson) Starin and are the parents of Nicole and Matthew. George, now deceased, served as a WWII Marine in the South Pacific, and lived through Tarawa, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. When his duty to his country was complete, he returned to his home in Schenectady, New York and became an over the road truck driver. Rose, now retired, was a Registered Nurse. Scott’s eldest sister, Peggy, also served her country as a Marine. The next in line, Mark, is a Christian missionary with his family, living in Lebanon, and the third child, Tim, is an OSHA inspector.

Education

Scott Starin graduated from a local technical college in New York, with an Associate’s Degree in Industrial Technology and Drafting. While working full time, Scott attended college at night and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Nova University in 1990.

Politics

A proponent of renewable energy resources, Scott has an over twenty year history of influencing politicians toward electrical based vehicles over the combustion engine. By the second year of his participation, he was elected the President of the Sawgrass Young Republicans and was the number two ranked Young Republican in the state. He was also ranked as the number one public speaker in the state. By year three, a state-wide delegation elected Scott as Co-Chair of the Florida Federation of Young Republicans.

Business

Scott began his engineering career as a mechanical drafter with an associate’s degree in 1981, at Astro Instrument Corporation in Pompano Beach, Florida. Within five years Scott was the head of the engineering department at the age of 25. He attended night school and earned his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering in 1990. Scott worked for Astro Instrument Corporation, which later became CDA InterCorp, until 2004. Scott is currently working at Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. as the Electronics Project Manager for the James Webb Space Telescope [cite web| url=http://www.dailycamera.com/news/2008/apr/22/republican-enters-2nd-cd-race/| title=Lafayette Republican enters 2nd CD race| publisher=Daily Camera| author=Jennifer Bronson| accessdate=2008-04-22] . Scott received his Department of Defense Top-Secret clearance in 2005.

Scott authored over ten technical manuals on electro-mechanical energy conversion and power absorption, received two patents and authored six technical papers for NASA, the European Space Agency, and other international organizations. Additionally, Scott invented a new concept for controlling AC induction motors that significantly increased efficiency, power output and torque capacity. During his career, Scott contributed to the development of all science the instruments used on the Hubble Space Telescope and received a Group Achievement Award from NASA for his contributions to the first Hubble Space Telescope Repair Mission.

Organizations

Scott is a founding member of the Valmont Amateur Astronomy Group in Boulder. He currently serves as president and Web designer of the organization. He and his wife, Debora, are very active in their church, Valmont Community Presbyterian Church in Boulder. Scott also volunteers his time with organizations like Little League Baseball both in Lafayette and North Springs, Meals on Wheels, and Deerfield Beach Florida board of Adjustment.
