In Pit Lane

In Pit Lane

In Pit Lane is a motor sports television show currently broadcasting on Channel 31 (a community access television station) in Melbourne, Australia. It started on Optus Vision, another community access station that has since folded. It is produced and hosted by Brett Ramsey. Several guest hosts have appeared. In Pit Lane is presented in irreverent style and composition, and holds a unique place in Australian broadcasting, being one of the very few community TV Programs to have out-rated and out-lasted its commercial competition.

The show has a heavy news component, and guest interviews. Generally the show covers motorsport events in and around Melbourne, Victoria. Some of the classes covered from local events are Formula Ford, Porsche 944 Challenge, Marque Sports and Sports Sedans. Occasional special features have included broadcasts of Georg Plasa's mad Judd V8 powered 3-series BMW in the German Hill Climb competition, Drag Racing, jet boats, tractor pulls, monster trucks, mini monster trucks, the Gold Coast IndyCar race, the American Le Mans 'Race of a Thousand Years' from Adelaide, and special coverage of the 2004 24 Hours of Le Mans and Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Australian Formula One Grand Prix and V8 Supercar Series are generally not covered owing to media restrictions.

Many of Australia's top motor-racing drivers, organisers and team managers have appeared on In Pit Lane, including Peter Brock, Mark Webber, Paul Stoddart, Tony Cochrane and Dr. Rob Nethercote.

It is usually produced from a basement studio at RMIT, but is often pretaped at a motor sports event.
