Overview
Rangers played a total of 53 competitive matches during the 1972-73 season. The club appeared in the first ever European Super Cup in January this season. They played Ajax Amsterdam over two legs, losing 1-3 at Ibrox and 3-2 in Amsterdam.
Domestically, the side finished a second in the Scottish League Division One with 56 points, only one point behind Celtic. The club won the Scottish Cup, beating Celtic 3-2 in front of a crowd of 122,714. They ended the season without the League Cup after being knocked out of the former by Hibernian at the semi-final stage.
