John Louis II, Prince of Anhalt-Zerbst

John Louis II, Prince of Anhalt-Zerbst (b. Dornburg, 23 June 1688 - d. Zerbst, 5 November 1746), was a German prince member of the House of Ascania and ruler of the Principality of Anhalt-Dornburg and, since 1742, was ruler over all the Principality of Anhalt-Zerbst .

He was the eldest son of John Louis I, Prince of Anhalt-Dornburg by his wife Christine Eleonore of Zeutsch.

Life

He succeded his father in Anhalt-Dornburg after his death in 1704, jointly with his brothers John Augustus (d. 1709), Christian Augustus, Christian Louis (d. 1710) and John Frederick (d. 1742), but he had the "Senoriat" over them.

In 1720 he was appointed "Oberlanddrostes" of Jever. He remained there for the next twenty-two years; during this time, he ordened the build of the "Stadtkirche" in Jever (who was finally inaugurated in 1736). After the death of his cousin, the Prince John Augusus of Anhalt-Zerbst in 1742 without heirs, led to him and his only surviving brother Christian Augustus the inheritance over all the principality. For this, he had to returned to Zerbst shortly after.

He never married and died after only four years of government. On his death, was succeeded by his brother and co-ruler.
