Scott Bishop

Scott Bishop is a footballer from New Zealand. He is a goalkeeper.

He was selected for the New Zealand Under 20's team in 1992,the Under 23's in 1996 and made his senior team debut in 1998.Scott also respresented New Zealand as a schoolboy in an athletics international.

He declined an invitation to join the Football Kingz in their 2000 inaugural season but finally accepted the Kingz sixth invitation to join them very late in the season in 2002.

Although the Kingz were beaten 2-1 by Adelaide United in his sole appearance, Scott almost single handedly prevented them from a double figure beating and won the lucrative supporters, media and coach's man of the match awards.

A falling out with current national and Wellington Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert has seen the pair not speak to each other since 1998 and might explain Scott Bishop's absence from any of Herbert's teams.

Scott was also described in both 2001 and 2008 by former Kingz goalkeeping coach and coach of New Zealand Football Championship 2008 winners Waitakere United, Chris Milicich, as "New Zealand's finest goalkeeper when all are fit and in top form".

Former England international and Premier League player Dean Gordon in 2006 described former Wigan Athletic keeper Scott as "one of the best goalkeepers that I've ever seen" and "he could play in any of the English leagues."

Inactive since 2006 Scott was brought back to New Zealand from Melbourne halfway through the current season to play in the Premier League.

He declined several NZFC offers whilst in New Zealand.

He will return to Melbourne in late 2008 and look for a Foxtel Cup team to play for in 2009.
