It grows in the northern coastal scrub and coastal sage scrub habitats as well as chaparral of the state, from elevations of 0 to 2296 feet.[1]

Named subspecies are:

  • Oxalis albicans ssp. albicans

The subspecies pilosa can be only found at elevations up to 656 feet,[2] while the subspecies californica can be found up to elevations of 2296 feet.[3] Both subspecies are native to California, although the former can be found outside of California within western North America,[2] while the latter exists outside of California only slightly beyond its borders.[4]
