Carl Chaiet was born in
Mount Vernon, New York onJanuary 12 ,1951 . He attendedHunter College as an undergraduate,Lehman College for graduate work, andNew York University for his doctorate inAesthetics . He taught art in the New York public school system for many years. During this time, he worked in a variety of mediums throughout the1970s ,1980s and1990s , primarilysculpture andpainting , before teaming up with his wife, Lynn Kearcher, to create the Earnest and Telford series for which he is best known.Earnest and Telford
Telford, a renowned
lexicographer , and his 6'3" bird-butler, Earnest, investigate the worlds of language and culture, generally in order to solve some sort of mystery. They are the central characters in three books illustrated by Carl Chaiet and written by Lynn Kearcher: "Being Earnest" in1998 , "It Could Have Been a Rose" in2003 , and "Man's First Word " in 2007.Awards
