Henry Wolfe Baines

The Rt Rev Henry Wolfe Baines was an Anglican Bishop in the third quarter of the 20th century ["Bishop Baines Obituary" The Times Saturday, Dec 02, 1972; pg. 16; Issue 58647; col G] . He was born on 7 February 1905 and educated at Repton and Balliol [“Who was Who” 1897-1990 London, A & C Black, 1991 ISBN 071363457X ] . After a period of study at Ripon College Cuddesdon he was ordained in 1930 and began his career with a curacy at the University Church of St Mary the Virgin [ [http://www.university-church.ox.ac.uk/ Church web-site] ] . From 1934 he was Chaplain of St. John's Cathedral, Hong Kong [ [http://anglicanhistory.org/nz/blain_directory/directory.pdf Blain Biographical Directory of Anglican Clergy] ] , then Vicar of St Nicholas Radford, Coventry and finally (before his elevation to the Episcopate) Rural Dean of Rugby. In 1949 he became Bishop of Singapore [ "Bishop Of Singapore Consecration In St. Paul'S (News)" The Times Thursday, Jun 30, 1949; pg. 7; Issue 51421; col C] and in 1960 he was translated to Wellington. He died on 29 November 1972.
