Raymond Angelo Joseph "Scampy" Scapinello (born
November 5 ,1946 inGuelph, Ontario ) is a formerNational Hockey League linesman.Scapinello's career included the
1998 Winter Olympics , 20Stanley Cup Finals , 2,500 regular season games, and 426 playoff games. He retired in June 2004 after 33 seasons. Over the course of his career, Scapinello never missed a single game due to injury or illness. One game he officiated was NHL's greatest game: Game 7 of the1994 Stanley Cup Finals . Also, he never wore a helmet during his entire officiating career; he was under agrandfather clause .After retiring, Scapinello took a part-time job as an officials supervisor in two amateur hockey leagues, the
Ontario Hockey League inCanada and theCentral Hockey League in theUnited States . He has also instructed at summer officiating camps, including the North American School of Officiating.Ray is married to Maureen and they have one child, Ryan.
On June 17, 2008, it was announced that Scapinello would be inducted into the
