Chris Prelitz (born 1956) is an environmental and green building advocate and author.

Chris Prelitz lives in a net-zero solar powered home that Prelitz designed and built in Laguna Beach, California. His book, Green Made Easy: The Everyday Guide for Transitioning to a Green Lifestyle was published by Hay House in April, 2009.

Prelitz was one of the founders of CASBA, The California Straw Bulders Organization, a California NGO responsible for California code and DOE adoption of strawbale construction. In 1993 Prelitz built the first permitted solar powered residence in Southern California.

Early life

Chris was born in 1956 in Memphis, Tennessee, the oldest of 6 siblings. Son of Paul Philip Prelitz, an ocean and aerospace engineer and a mother of Native American descent.

Prelitz holds a Bachelor of Arts from California State University, Fullerton, and is a graduate of Duke University's Environmental Leadership program.

His design-build firm Prelitz + Partners developed projects ranging from off-grid solar communities to the first solar-powered LEED certified auto dealership in the U.S. for Mercedes Benz. [2]

Advocacy

  • Prelitz chairs the City of Laguna Beach Environmental Committee and has served on environmental advisory boards at city, state, and national levels. In the early 1980s, he served on the board of Directors of the Eos Institute, publishers of Earthword, [3] the first U.S. journal on sustainability.
