The CSS "Alabama" worked it's way slowly back and forth in the vicinity of
Cape Town in one of the least successful of its seven raids, capturing a fewYankee barks. While operating in this area theUSS Vanderbilt (1862) pulled intoSimon's Town in pursuit of theCSS Alabama , but had no luck in finding the elusiveConfederate raider of the sea. The CSS Alabama rendevouzed a few times with her daughter ship theCSS Tuscaloosa .From this raiding area off the coast of Brazil, the CSS "Alabama" made her way into the
