- Peugeot UO-8
The Peugeot UO-8 was a ten-speed
bicycle manufactured byCycles Peugeot during the "bike boom " of the 1970s. It was marketed as a mid-range "racing style" cycle, and was manufactured from sometime in the early 60s [From RetroPeugeot.com http://mysite.verizon.net/vzerndgo/id36.html] until the end of 1980. [From RetroPeugeot.com - 1980 catalog, with UO-8: http://mysite.verizon.net/vzerndgo/id65.html] The model was discontinued for the 1981 model year. Though the components changed somewhat throughout the years of production, much remained the same.
* Through all years of production, various models ofSimplex derailleurs were used.http://cyclespeugeot.com/1970-1979PeugeotCatalog.html]
*Mafac "racer" brakes were also used throughout the entire production run.Identification
The UO-8 is often mistaken for the higher-end PX-10. There are multiple ways to tell them apart, but the easiest is the gold "Tube Special" sticker that appears on (most) UO-8s.
Also, the year of a UO-8 can usually be determined by the serial number. The first digit of the serial number indicates the year of manufacture, and the number of digits in the serial number indicates the decade. [http://cyclespeugeot.com/SerialNumbers.html] For example, the serial number "1234567" has seven digits, and begins with a one. This indicates a 1971 model. This method will hold true 9/10 times, but there are sometimes exceptions.
