He was born in Havana, Cuba in 1962. Ramirez has been involved in the Cigar World since the age of 13, when he worked in the Havana tobacco fields.

In 1994, at age 32, Ramirez crossed the ocean from Cuba on a raft which landed in Miami, Florida.
