In Harmony (music)

In Harmony is a community development project aimed at using music to bring positive change to the lives of very young children in the most deprived areas of England, delivering benefits across the wider community. The programme encourages participation in music – in the form of the Symphony Orchestra – which can have huge personal benefits for the children involved, providing opportunities to grow and develop, both socially and musically.

The cellist Julian Lloyd Webber has been appointed Chairman of the In Harmony steering group which will be responsible for selecting and guiding the three pilot projects. These will be in three of the country’s communities that need it most. Individuals, community groups, local authorities, music organisations and consortiums made up of all of these, can bid for a share of £3million to run the projects which will begin in January 2009.
