Lee Latchford-Evans (born 28 January 1975) is an English Pop singer.

Biography

He was born on 28 January, 1975 in Chester, England as Lee Evans with his middle name Latchford from the surname of footballer Bob Latchford as his father was a life-long Everton fan. At the point he started performing the eponymous comedian Lee Evans was well known, and so the Latchford name came into play and he was known as Lee Latchford for a short time. Before long it changed to Lee Latchford-Evans.

He studied musical theatre at Laine Theatre Arts. In 1997, he became a member of the pop group Steps; they went on to sell 14 consecutive Top 5 singles (a feat for a British act, at the time bettered only by the Beatles), sold more than 12 million albums and announced their split on Boxing Day 2001. In the same year as the Steps split, he appeared naked in the magazine Attitude.

He has also appeared in the stage production of Grease in London's West End playing 'Teen Angel'. It is rumoured that he was cast in the role without the producers actually hearing him sing. His vocals with Steps were often bass harmonies or spoken dialogue. He is currently the lead singer of a rock band called The Latch, along with guitarist/songwriter Simon J. Pinto. The band release their debut single "Miracle" on October 29 2007 on Lair records.

Since the split, Lee has appeared in the reality television shows "The Games", "Fear Factor", and "I'm Famous and Frightened!". In 2006, Lee appeared in a new reality show on MTV called "Totally Boyband". This show was from the same creators as the show "Totally Scott-Lee", which featured his ex-bandmate Lisa Scott-Lee and her family.

Lee later parted company with the MTV show, Totally Boyband. Lee was dismissed by the other band members. He only featured in four episodes of the reality programme and was not involved in recording their single. Other members of the band include Dane Bowers (Another Level), Bradley McIntosh (from S Club 7), Jimmy Constable (from 90s boyband 911) and Danny Wood (New Kids on the Block).

In 2000, Latchford-Evans was criticized by the Anti Fascist Action organisation for making allegedly xenophobic remarks against asylum seekers [cite web|url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/850520.stm|title=Steps upset by 'racist' claims|accessdate=2007-08-18|publisher=BBC.co.uk] along with fellow Steps member Claire Richards. He stated that "there should be more jobs for English people" with Richards continuing, "Why are we paying for all these people to come into the country anyway?". All accusations were vehemently denied by both Latchford-Evans and Richards.

He will be appearing in the Modern Life? action thriller "Ten Dead Men" produced by Phil Hobden, directed by Ross Boyask and starring Pooja Shah, Brendan Carr and Terry Stone. He has also completed filming of upcoming Britflick Cash and Curry playing villain "Casper Warrington-Boothe". [cite web|url=http://www.cashandcurry.co.uk|title=Cash and Curry|accessdate=2007-08-18]

Latchford-Evans will be doing a U.K. tour with Steps in 2008, but without bandmate Ian "H" Watkins.
