The Rt Rev. (William) "Gordon Wheeler " was the
Roman Catholic Bishop of Leeds from 1966 until 1985 [The Times Saturday, Aug 24, 1985; pg. 10; Issue 62225; col E "Bishop Wheeler to retire"] .Born on5 May 1910 and educated atManchester Grammar School andUniversity College, Oxford [ “Who was Who” 1897-2007 London,A & C Black , 2007 ISBN 9780199540877 ] he wasordained anAnglican Priest in 1934 and began his ecclesiastical career with curacies at "St Bartholomew's,Brighton " and "St Mary and All Saints,Chesterfield " before being received into theRoman Catholic Church in 1936. Againordained priest in 1940 he was firstly an Assistant Curate at "St Edmund's,Lower Edmonton ", then aChaplain at (and later the Administrator ofAdministrator of)Westminster Cathedral ; and finally, before his elevation to theEpiscopate , Coadjutor Bishop] ofMiddlesbrough .
