Duncan MacMillan Nursing Home is a 25-bed nursing home in Sheet Harbour, Nova Scotia Canada.

Facts

The nursing home was named after Sheet Harbour's well known doctor, Dr. Duncan MacMillan.

The Nova Scotia Department of Health announced plans in 2007 to build a replacement nursing home for Sheet Harbour in 2010.[1][2]

Care Provided By the Nurses at Duncan MacMillan Nursing Home: General long term care; Long term care: elderly & physically handicapped; Long term care: elderly, physically & mentally handicapped; Long term care: physically handicapped - all ages.[3]

History

The building that now called the Duncan MacMillan Nursing Home was originally built in 1948 as Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital. It was converted into a Nursing Home in 1983 after the a new wing was made into the Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital.[4]

In December 2005, negotiations between the home and a union representing staff there broke down, leading to the threat of a strike over the Christmas holiday.[5] A negotiated agreement was reached in early January 2006.[6]
