governing_body =National Park Service &U.S. Bureau of Land Management Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument (sometimes referred to as Parashant National Monument) is located on the northern edge of theGrand Canyon in northwestArizona . It was established by Presidential Proclamation 7265 onJanuary 11 2000 . This remote area of open, undeveloped spaces is an impressive and diverse landscape that includes an array of scientific and historic resources.The national monument is a very remote and undeveloped place managed by the
National Park Service and theBureau of Land Management (BLM). There are no paved roads into the monument and no visitor services. About 20,000 acres (81 km²) are withinLake Mead National Recreation Area . The Interagency Information Center is located in the BLM Office inSt. George, Utah .The name is derived from
paiute "Pawteh 'ee oasoasant" which means, "tanned elk hide," or "softening of the elk hide." So far, a 2005 expedition to examine 24 caves in the park has produced two new species of
millipede , the firstbarklouse discovered inNorth America , a whole newgenus of cricket and four new cricket species.
