The 2011 FIBA Asia Championship for Men is the qualifying tournament for FIBA Asia at the men's basketball tournament of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. The tournament will be held in 2011.

The country's sole governing body for basketball, the BAP-Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, is making a serious bid to host the FIBA Asia qualifying tournament for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

The intention to stage the quadrennial meet in the country was relayed to top FIBA officials by BAP-SBP executives led by Excecutive Director Noli Eala and Ricky Vargas in a special meeting held during the Beijing Olympics.

"We already told FIBA that the Philippines is more than willing to host the FIBA Asia meet in 2011 which will serve as qualifier to the 2012 Olympics in London," said Vargas, BAP-SBP vice-chairman, during a break in the planning session of the Philippine Basketball Association Board, where he represents Talk `N Text.

FIBA secretary-general Patrick Baumann acknowledged the goodwill of the Filipinos and told them to make a formal letter about the matter.

"Anytime now, Noli (Eala, BAP-SBP Executive Director) will be going to Malaysia and present our formal bid to host the event to Dato Yeoh Choo-Hok (FIBA-Asia secretary-general)," Vargas added.

Basketball officials hope that staging the event would give the country the boost it needed in its bid for a return stint to the Olympics.
