Symon G. Ogeto

Symon Gwaro Ogeto (born May 18, 1972) works as senior coordinator for Marketing, Events and Media Relations for the Office of Programs and External Relations, International House at the University of Chicago. Prior to joining the University of Chicago, Ogeto worked at Columbia College Chicago for six years as an adviser and coordinator for non-immigrant students through the Office of International Student Affairs.

Since relocating from Kenya in 1994, Ogeto has been a staunch promoter of small-to-medium businesses that trade between the United States and East Africa with emphasis on responsible tourism (ecotourism). In 1997, this effort inspired Ogeto to jumpstart a travel enterprise - SEED Tours and Safaris. In 2007, Ogeto renamed the business SEED Group, Inc. [http://www.seedchicago.com] . The enterprise incorporates five major divisions that focus on travel to East Africa, local media services including graphic design, consulting, and publishing of Masharikileo.com [http://www.masharikileo.com] - a 24/7 online media outlet that links Chicago to East Africa and its people.

Ogeto holds Masters in Arts, Entertainment and Media Management and Bachelors in Marketing from Columbia College Chicago. Also, he holds an associate diploma in tour guiding, tourism management and administration from Kenya Utalii College (Nairobi, Kenya).

Personal Life

Ogeto is married to Sarah J. Ogeto, a Columbia College Chicago graduate. The two have a daughter - Isabella Kerubo, who was born on January 27, 2008.
