Applied planetology

Applied planetology

Applied planetology (also called applied planetary science) is a term describing practical applications of planetology as an applied science for useful purposes that advance the human condition. Compared with theoretical planetology, applied planetology focus on what utility can be extracted by using planetological knowledge, rather than seeking knowledge for knowledge's sake.

The term has been appeared, in a speculative fashion, in JBIS.http://books.google.com/books?id=2DJWAAAAMAAJ&q=%22applied+planetology%22&dq=%22applied+planetology%22&lr=&pgis=1]

Applied planetology is related to planetary engineering and terraforming. [http://maps.unomaha.edu/maher/planetary/terraform.html]

The distinction between theoretical, or pure, and applied planetology is akin to the distinction between pure mathematics and applied mathematics.
