Sophia Dorothea of Holstein

Sophia Dorothea of Holstein

Jacques Vaillant, 1682
Dorothea Sophia of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (28 September 1636, Glücksburg - 6 August 1689, Karlsbad) was a German noblewoman. The great-granddaughter of king Christian III of Denmark, she was the daughter of Philip, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg and Sophia Hedwig of Sachsen-Lauenburg.

In 1653 she married Christian Louis, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg, brother-in-law to king Frederick III of Denmark - the marriage was childless. In 1665 her first husband died and she moved to the Schloss Herzberg. On 14 June 1668 she remarried to the Great Elector. She is buried in Berlin Cathedral.
