Az-Zubayr ibn ‘Abd al-Muttalib

Az-Zubayr ibn ‘Abd al-Muttalib

: "For Muhammad's cousin and companion, see Zubayr ibn al-Awwam.Az-Zubayr ibn ‘Abd al-Muttalib (ArB|الزبير بن عبد المطلب) was the son of Shaiba ibn Hashim and uncle to Muhammad. His daughters were Duba'ah (Duba'a, Dhuba’ah, Dabaah ?), Fatima, Zaba'ah (Sabaaah, Thoba’ah?).

Zubair was full brother to Abu Talib and Muhammad's father Abdullah from Abd al-Muttalib's wife Fatimah. After the death of his eldest half brother Harith, Zubair was next in kin and with his brother Abu Talib took responsibility for family obligations on providing for the pilgrims.

To Zubair also is ascribed the origin of the movement for the suppression of violence and injustice formed at Mecca in order to put an end to the Sacrilegious War.

Sources also name Zubair as founder of the order of chivalry known as the Hilf al-fudul.
