Supreme Court of Uganda

The Supreme Court of Uganda is the highest judicial organ in Uganda. It derives its powers from the 1995 constitution. It is majorly an appellate court with original jurisdiction in a few cases like presidential election petition. The Supreme Court is headed by the Chief Justice assisted by six justices.

The current composition is: Benjamin Joseph Odoki (Chief Justice), Justices John Tsekoko, Joseph Mulenga, George William Kanyeihamba, Bart Katureebe, Galdino Okello and Acting Justice James Ogoola.

Among the controversial cases heard by the Supreme court is the validity of the death penalty. Judgment is pending.Other cases include the last two presidential election petitions in which the court ruled 3:2 and then 4:3 in favor of president Yoweri Museveni's reelection to power.
