Laguna Canyon

Laguna Canyon is a coastal canyon in Orange County in Southern California, running approximately 10 miles (16.1 km) from Irvine to Laguna Beach through the San Joaquin Hills.

Recreation

Laguna Canyon is protected in the 6,500 acre Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, the Irvine Open Space, Aliso and the rest belongs to Irvine, Laguna Woods and Laguna Beach. Some of its endangered species include California Gnatcatcher, Cactus Wren, and Orange-throated whiptail.

Drainage

Laguna Canyon Creek drains the watershed of about 10.5 square miles, served by tributaries Sycamore Canyon, Laurel Canyon, and the Laguna Lakes, the only natural lakes in Orange County. It, however, only contains water in the form of stormwater in its final reaches. It is mostly channelized to where it empties onto Main Beach.
