- Guadalajara Macrobus
The Guadalajara Macrobus is a
bus rapid transit (BRT) system being built in Guadalajara,Jalisco . The initiation of work on the system was announced by Jalisco GovernorEmilio González Márquez on February 29, 2008.Lines
The initial line of the system will run 16 kilometers along
Calzada Independencia and Gobernador Curiel with 27 intermediary stations and two terminals: Huentitán and Miravalle. The line is under construction as of August 2008 and is scheduled to open in late 2008. The line will open in phases as follows:
*Phase 1: Calzada Independencia Corridor
*Phase 1A: Juntas-Periférico Sur
*Phase 1B: Juan de la Barrera-Airport
*Phase 1C: Periférico Norte-MiradorAdditional lines under planning include a line along

The Macrobus fleet will consist of articulated
Volvo buses, similar to those used byMexico City 's Metrobús BRT system. The initial segment of the first line will make use of 45 such buses.Impact and Ridership
As of February 2008, there were 130 bus routes running along Calzada Independencia and Gobernador Curiel, serviced by more than 2,000 buses. The goal of the BRT is to replace all non-BRT buses along the route. Many routes will be eliminated altogether and others altered so as to cross the BRT route and serve as feeder buses.
It is expected that upon the initial route's launch, the BRT system will achieve a daily ridership of over 174,000 passengers.
