Survivors = 0Lufthansa Flight 005 was a flight enroute fromFrankfurt toBremen . The aircraft crashed just before 19:00 after an aborted landing near the runway.Sequence of events
The
cloud ceiling was only 300m and due to the heavy rain thevisibility was below 1.000m. The Pilot was cleared to land on Runway 27. Due to a malfunction of one of the flight director instruments the pilot deviated from the intended path of theInstrument landing system .After transition to visual flight the pilot did a wrong assessment of the height above the ground and decided to do ago-around . During this phase the aircraft stalled. The pilot could not control the further progress of the flight on account of the rather poor stall performance of the aircraft type, the extraordinary difficulties to control a stall during instrument flight conditions, and the insufficient height available for transition from a stall to a normal attitude after the aircraft. A few seconds later the aircraft crashed into a field and burned completely. When the rescue team arrived they could only sort through the wreckage.Memorial
A memorial to the victims has been put near the crash site.
