The Most Reverend William Piercy Austin(7 November 18079 November 1892) [ [http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/town/walk/rcr51/ThomasAustin/tree/pafg03.htm DOB/DOD] ] was the inaugural and long serving [The Times, Monday, Aug 15, 1892; pg. 6; Issue 33717; col D An Episcopal Jubilee.] Bishop of Guyana from 1842 until his death [And, until 1884, Dean of St George's Cathedral,Georgetown] . Educated at Exeter College, Oxford [ "The Clergy List, Clerical Guide and Ecclesiastical Directory" London, Hamilton & Co 1889] and ordained in 1831 he was in rapid succession Curate , Vicar and Rural Dean of Georgetown, Guyana, then Archdeacon and Bishop [ [http://www.stgeorges.org.gy/St%20Georges%20Cathedral%20Book.pdf Diocesan History] ] . In 1883 he was appointed Primate of the West Indies and in 1891 Prelate to the Order of St Michael and St George [The Times, Saturday, Dec 19, 1891; pg. 9; Issue 33512; col E "Court Circular"] .
