Campus
The campus was built in 1968 for Kokomo High School. The district's two high schools merged in 1984 and following an expansion of the former Haworth High School campus, ninth through twelfth grade classes were consolidated to the former Haworth campus site in 1998.
The school has aerospace facilities unique to the middle school level. Known as Central Spacelab, the facilities include a model
Space Shuttle andMission Control Center to simulate space missions, and an artificial moon surface to drive a scale model of thelunar rover with a remote control.Extracurricular activities
Activities available for Central Middle School students include Bridges, drama club, Lego League,
Mathcounts , Spacelab, Spanish club, and student council.FIRST Lego League
The school has two
FIRST Lego League (FLL) teams, Central Spacelab One and Central Spacelab Two. The Central Spacelab One team has won the FLL Indiana Championship three consecutive times, competing at the FLL World Festival in 2004 and 2005 and winning the FLL World Championship in 2006. Central Spacelab One and Central Spacelab Two earned fourth and fifth places in the 2007 FLL Indiana Championship. Central Spacelab One attended the 2008 FLL World Festival as a "wild card" selection and finished in 19th place of the 80 teams at the FLL World Festival.Fact|date=August 2008References
