Back to the main page.

Harvesters are a subfamily of the Gossamer-wings. Harvesters are mostly found in the Old World tropics. There is only 1 species in North America. Its has a wingspan of 1.18-1.25 inches (3-3.2cm). The Harvester is very unique because its larvae don't have a host plant. Instead, the Harvester larvae feed on woolly aphids, making it the only carnivorous butterfly in North America! Their flight is very fast and erratic. Adults never visit flowers, but may be seen perched on tree branches or leaves.
