Ballad in Plain D is the tenth track of Bob Dylan's fourth album, Another Side of Bob Dylan. The song is an account of his breakup with Suze Rotolo. It is also the longest song on the album. In it, Dylan recounts the conflicts between himself, Rotolo, and Rotolo's sister Carla, who had initially been one of his most enthusiastic supporters. Dylan, when asked in 1985 if he regretted writing any song, replied of the song "I look back at that particular one and say...maybe I could have left that alone."
