Rebecca Caine is a critically acclaimed Canadian opera and musical theatre performer. Ms. Caine was born in Toronto and studied at the Guildhall School of Music in London. She currently resides in London and studies with highly regarded singing teacher and vocal coach, Gerald Martin Moore.
Uniquely, Ms. Caine’s illustrious career has been divided between opera and musical theatre, making her West End debut at 19 in the role of Laurey in "
Oklahoma! ". She then sang the role of Eliza in "My Fair Lady " on the National tour. While making her debut atGlyndebourne as Amor in L’incoronazione di Poppea, she was asked to join theRoyal Shakespeare Company where she created the role of Cosette in "Les Miserables". After a successful West End run, she joined the original cast of "Phantom of the Opera " to play Christine oppositeMichael Crawford . She then returned to Toronto to repeat the role in the Canadian premiere of "Phantom". During her celebrated run in Toronto, she joined theCanadian Opera Company to make her triumphant North American operatic debut in the title role ofAlban Berg 's "Lulu". This success led to offers from numerous international opera companies ranging fromMonteverdi to Maxwell Davies, including Pamina, Despina, Susanna, Aminta (Re Pastore), Vixen, Michaela, Musetta, Ophelie, Leila, Marguerite, Violetta, Julietta (Martinu ) and Adina for companies such as theCanadian Opera Company ,Scottish Opera ,English National Opera ,Glimmerglass Opera ,Spoleto Festival , Opera de Nice,De Vlaamse Opera ,New Zealand Opera , National Theatre of Prague, andOpera North . Her most recent success was a highly praised performance of Hanna Glawari inFranz Lehár 's "The Merry Widow " forOpera Holland Park in London in 2006.On October 7, 2006, Ms. Caine reunited with her former castmates from the original London production of "Les Miserables" to sing "One Day More" after a performance in celebration of the show's 21st anniversary making it the longest running musical in the world. In May 2009, she will make her Chicago debut in the
Chicago Opera Theater ’s production ofBenjamin Britten ’s "Owen Wingrave ".Leading Ladies
In May 2007, Ms. Caine released Leading Ladies, an enchanting collection of songs paying tribute to past Leading Ladies of the British Musical Theatre Stage from
Gertrude Lawrence toJulie Andrews , with her collaborator and renowned vocal coach Gerald Martin Moore on piano and vocals playing a selection of their leading men, includingNoel Coward .They have created two highly successful cabaret shows based on their Leading Ladies concept (the second show is entitled Leading Ladies of Hollywood) and have performed for sold old out crowds throughout the UK in prestigious venues such as the
