Abhijit Banerjee (born 1961) is an
India neconomist , currently the the Ford Foundation International Professor of Economics at theMassachusetts Institute of Technology . Prior to joining MIT, he taught at Harvard and Princeton.Originally from
Kolkata , he attended theUniversity of Calcutta andJawaharlal Nehru University (New Delhi ) prior to obtaining a Ph.D. inEconomics atHarvard University .Much of his work focuses on development economics, with both theoretical and applied contributions. Together with
Esther Duflo ,Michael Kremer , Jeff Carpenter,John List andSendhil Mullainathan , he has been a driving force in advancingfield experiments as an important methodology to discover causal relationships in economics.Publications
