popular song . Aninstrumental version byHugo Winterhalter and the writer Eddie Heywood reached #2 on the Billboard chart in 1956. A version sung byAndy Williams was also popular that year, reaching #7 on the Billboard chart. The Cameos had a Chicago-area hit in 1960, and the Sounds Orchestral, conducted by Johnny Pearson hit the Billboard Top Hot 100 and Easy Listening charts in 1965.Emergence as a jazz standard
The tune was covered by a number of jazz performers starting in the 1960s.
*Wes Montgomery (guitar) did a nice small combo version with his signature two-stringed melodic phrasing
*Danny Gatton (guitar) playing withBuddy Emmons (pedal steel) produced a funky version of the tune that fit appropriately with the "Redneck Jazz" sound they developed (jazz played on instruments normally relegated to country music)
*George Shearing (piano) added an elegant orchestral arrangement behind his jazz quintet sound
*Kenny Barron (piano) Trio
*Gene Ammons (tenor saxophone)

*Cedar Walton made it funky in the 1976 album "Beyond Mobius"and many more.
