Peter Suber (born
November 8 ,1951 ) is the creator of thegame Nomic and a leading voice in theopen access movement. He is the seniorresearch professor ofphilosophy atEarlham College , theopen access project director atPublic Knowledge , and a seniorresearcher at SPARC (Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition ) [http://www.arl.org/sparc/index.html] .Suber graduated from
Earlham in1973 , received a PhD degree inphilosophy in1978 and a JD degree in1982 , both fromNorthwestern University . He worked as astand-up comic from1976 to1981 , including an appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson " in 1976. Suber returned to Earlham College as a professor from 1982 to 2003 where he taught classes on philosophy,law ,logic , andKant 's "Critique of Pure Reason ", among other topics.Suber participated in the
2001 meeting that led to the world's first major internationalopen access initiative, theBudapest Open Access Initiative .
