Maud of Dampierre

Maud of Dampierre

Maud of Dampierre or Mathilda II of Bourbon (1241-1262) was a daughter of Archambaud IX of Bourbon and Yolande de Châtillon, countess of Nevers. As heiress to the counties of Nevers, Auxerre and Tonnerre, she was married off to Eudes, son and heir of Hugh IV of Burgundy. By this marriage Eudes reunited two important areas that had previously been united as the Duchy of Burgundy, but he died leaving no male heirs and so the united territory passed to his brother Robert II of Burgundy. After her father's death Maud also became lady of Bourbon.

With Eudes she had three children:
*Yolande (1247-1280), countess of Nevers,
*Marguerite (1249-1308), countess of Tonnerre, in 1268 married Charles of Anjou,
*Adelaide (1254-1290), countess of Auxerre, in 1268 married John, lord of Chalon (-1309).
