Rathna Ella is the 10th highest waterfall in
Sri Lanka . However, it is also a considerable waterfall in Sri Lanka. There are two ways to reach Rathna Ella. One is the road which goes across Wal Palma in Mahaswadduma temple.When going to the waterfall one can see a green environment all over. The main occupation of the villagers in Rathna Ella is paddy cultivation. Raihna Ella waterfall is very important to the villagers since it supplies water to the irrigation works and paddy cultivation.
When we look at the economy,the Rathna Ella waterfall is very important because we can produce electricity from Rathna Ella. However, even today no steps have been taken to do this. If electricity is produced, the villagers can get more benefits. But the villagers have no electricity and transport facilities.
The meaning of Rathna Ella is an Ella field with gems. We can see some small gems at the top of the waterfall. Rathna Ella is situated in the
Kandy District . It belongs to Minipe Divisional Secretariat. The elecorate is Ududumbara. The height of the waterfall is 111 feet.The people in the past built a small anicut to get water from Rathna Ella for their agricultural activities. From this Rathna Ella, 200 farmers earn money by doing paddy cultivation.It was a famous waterfall and a resource for people. This waterfall is like a diamond for the farmers. We protect our diamonds like our eyes.
