Blanche Brillon Macdonald

Blanche Brillon Macdonald was born Metis and her French and Indian heritage was a source of pride throughout her life and involved her in the support of the rights and culture of all Native people. She was a great supporter of the Indian community and numerous women's organizations and served as an exciting role model to men and women across the country.

She initiated a journalism program for Native students and a newspaper to provide a strong voice for Indian communities in British Columbia.

She was honored with a Women of Distinction Award [http://www.ywcavan.org/content/Women_of_Distinction_Awards_/201/30/114] from the YWCA for Business and Entrepreneurship and for her role as the Chief Executive Officer of the Native Communications Society of B.C. She was a prominent board member for the Better Business Bureau (BBB), the Modelling Association of America [http://www.maai.org/] , the New Play Centre and a member of the Lakeside Advisory Board for Women.

Blanche Macdonald developed the Blanche Macdonald Institute as an avenue to give young men and women a sense of themselves. Her career and self development programs are founded on her philosophy of encouraging people to speak out, to become aware of themselves and to develop their potential.
